The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows international students who have graduated from eligible Canadian designated learning institutions (DLIs) to gain valuable Canadian work experience.
This open work permit can be valid for up to three years, depending on the length of your study program, and is a key step toward becoming eligible for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and other Express Entry pathways.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a PGWP, you must:
Have completed a program of study that was at least 8 months in duration at an eligible DLI.
Apply within 90 days of receiving your final transcript and an official letter confirming program completion.
Have held a valid study permit status during your studies.
Permit Duration
8 months to less than 2 years of study = PGWP valid for the same length as your program.
2 years or more of study = PGWP valid for up to 3 years.
Completed multiple programs? You may still qualify for a 3-year PGWP if the combined length is 2 years or more.
